HIKES AND BIKES AND BIOLOGY SOMETIMES

The Palisades

A break in the weather

One week it’s 90° and the next week it’s 65°. This is how we transition between seasons in Oregon. Maybe one day I’ll get used to it.

This hike starts in the montane forests of Badger Creek Wilderness, passes Oval Lake, and ends (for us) at The Palisades, a rocky outcrop at 5800 ft. It’s hard to see what’s going on here in the photos but the cliffs were tall and the exposure was a little unnerving. We did a little bit of scrambling around, but with the wind, the chill, and no ropes, we kept it safe. Kate was surprisingly more bold (or foolish) than I.
